The FUN RUN is coming!!! The FUN RUN is coming!!! 

Lace up your shoes and help us out this Friday!  There are lots of spots we still need to fill to make this a successful and fun event for the kids and our school.  Visit  http://signup.com/go/krzrmC  to secure your spot today.

For the Fun Run we still need:
Tables – drop off at school and pick up in the afternoon
Lap Markers – mark wrist bands as kids run through chutes
Money Counters – help with counting money the week after the FUN RUN
Clean Up Crew – break down and clean up immediately following run
Popsicle Helpers – hand out popsicles to class

Donate a fridge?!
Edgewood Village, our school’s food pantry, is looking to replace a small refrigerator that recently quit working. Edgewood Village serves families at our school partly by providing extra food each month. The refrigerator is essential for cold storage of milk, eggs, produce etc. If you have one you’d like to donate, please contact Meridith Turnbull at gonthajones@hotmail.com
Popping popcorn poppers needed!
We are looking for popcorn volunteers to help make popcorn and bag it on Wednesdays  Proceeds go to the primary grades to help cover costs for field trips and other learning opportunities. Popcorn starts this week!  Commitment would be one or two Wednesday afternoons a month. Help in the garden!
On Tuesday from 8:30-9:30 a.m. and 2:45-3:45 p.m. garden work is getting done and we need help! We need help digging up more grass, moving a couple yards compost, and planting bulbs this week. Come check it out!
 
Picture Day today and tomorrow!
Don’t forget that this Monday Oct. 3 or Tuesday Oct. 4 is School Picture Day for some classes! Below is the schedule for classes.  We could still use a few volunteers for Tuesday morning to help shuttle kids back and forth in Mitzi’s class and Mr. Lawrence’s class.  Please let the office know if you are available to help.:

Join the League of Women Voters/Great Schools, Great Communities forum as we explore the crisis in funding Oregon public schools and how we got here. You can share your ideas on what it will take to provide all Oregon children a quality education. The forum is Tuesday, Oct. 4, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Roosevelt Middle School, 500 East 24th Ave. Information: GreatOregonSchools.org
Science Open House
The Science Program to Inspire Creativity and Excellence (SPICE) and UO STEM CORE will hold the 6th annual “Science Open House” Wednesday, October 5th in the Willamette Hall Atrium (6:30pm-8:30pm) on the University of Oregon (UO) campus. The event will feature over 20 hands-on science activity tables from more than a dozen UO and community groups. The event is free and open to the public. The Open House will feature a drawing for several science kits and toys. All children under 15 receive a free ticket for the drawing. Additional tickets will be dispensed to children who complete the science pentathlon. Donations encouraged. All donations will go to support science summer camp scholarships for middle school aged girls. Visit  www.spicescience.uoregon.edu for more information.
AFTER SCHOOL YOGA STARTS SOON!
In these fun and active classes hosted by Yoga Playgrounds, kids will stretch and energize their bodies and minds through individual and group poses, mindfulness games and creative relaxation. Packed with playfulness, positivity and fun, these classes give kids the tools they need to manage their behaviors to lead happier, healthier and more peaceful lives. Appreciations

Thank you so much to Julia McMorran and the volunteers who helped organize the Freecycle event at the ice cream social. Despite the rain, families picked up some great clothes for the school year! Thank you Julia and volunteers! We look forward to more clothing sharing!
