Our next PTA meeting is Tuesday, Oct. 20 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. We’ve invited Joy Marshall to speak for a few minutes about Stand for Children, an education advocacy organization devoted to improving public schools and closing the achievement gap. Joy is the executive director of the local chapter. She also will talk about some of the challenges facing our kids in school and some of the legislative solutions being proposed. She is a great resource for anyone who has questions about how our school system works. Join us Tuesday in the Edgewood Library!

Bike+Walk+Bus Day at Edgewood is Thursday Oct. 22!

October 22 is Bike+Walk+Bus to school day! We are aiming for 80 percent participation this year. Flyers have gone home about the event – make sure your child writes his or her name AND his or her teacher’s name on the ticket and brings it to school that morning. Green Team members will collect the ticket at a Bike+Walk+Bus table in the breezeway. Prizes will be delivered to the classroom by the end of the day.

Can’t walk or bike all the way to school? No problem! Drop your child off a few blocks from school and let them use their own power get the rest of the way to school.

Meet the Superintendent

Our school district’s new superintendent, Dr. Gustavo Balderas, is inviting parents and the public to stop in to get to know him and to share your thoughts and questions about Eugene’s schools. “Meet the Superintendent” drop-in sessions are offered in October, November and December, at different locations around the district. Please join us.

Fun Run Update

More than $18,000 was raised for Edgewood Elementary School for the Fun Run, which means that the students get to vote on a Halloween costume for Larry!

Thank you to everyone who helped their student(s) collect pledges. This active event raises important funds for Edgewood Elementary—so that students have a storyteller and an artist-in-residence and teachers have curriculum support.

There is still time to get in your Fun Run pledges! Just send them with your child or drop them off at the office. Thank you for your commitment to Edgewood!

A scary successful Movie Night!

Dozens of families turned out on Friday to be scared by monsters at either Monsters, Inc. or Hotel Transylvania. We hope you had fun!

Thank you so much to Amelia Reising for designing the COOL Bike+Walk+Bus flyer for our event on Thursday. Check it out in your child’s take-home folders: it features the school’s raven on a bike holding an Edgewood flag!

Thank you to Michelle Stecher for organizing a fabulous Movie Night enjoyed by dozens of families!

Thank you to all of the families who donated food to the Edgewood Village pantry at Movie Night. Did you forget to bring in food? No worries! There is a bin in front of the office for food collection. That food is going to good use!

Thank you to Bree Bouse and Susan Carey for counting Fun Run money and organizing other volunteers to help count money. It is a big, but essential, job. Thank you to all the other volunteers who showed up to count money—your help is so appreciated!
