OCT. 17, 2016 NEWS BLAST

Eat at Mazzi’s tonight!
Edgewood’s next dine-and-donate event is tonight, Oct. 17th from 5 to 9 p.m. at Mazzi’s, 3377 East Amazon Dr. Thirty percent of food sales (including drinks and take-out) will be donated to Edgewood! A flyer should have come home with your student this week. Grab some friends and eat out for a good cause!
Fun Run Pledge envelopes due Tuesday!
The Fun Run was a huge success with the active students, great weather, organized volunteers and fun music. Please don’t forget to return your Fun Run envelopes/pledges. We’ve raised $8266 of a $20,000 goal. The class with the highest pledge participation wins a class party with extra recess. And if we reach the $20,000 goal, the students can vote on Larry’s Halloween costume! (Last year, Larry dressed up as a baby, and the students LOVED it!).  Please bring those envelopes in tomorrow . We appreciate your support!
PTA meeting Tuesday
The Edgewood PTA meets Tuesday night and our agenda is full! We are discussing the viability of our Web site, a possible fundraiser at Johnson Farms and a Measure 97 information table for our parents. The meeting is at 6:30 p.m. in the Edgewood Library. Childcare is free in the cafeteria. To see the agenda, check our Web site under About the PTA-PTA Business. See you there!
Help in the garden!
On Tuesdays from 8:30-9:30 a.m. and 2:45-3:45 p.m. garden work is getting done and we need help! We need help digging up more grass and planting. Come check it out (and get a sneak peek at what your students are doing in the garden too!)
Oregon Battle of the Books Wednesday
There is an OBOB meeting after school this Wednesday, Oct. 19 from 1:45-2:45. We will battle Rescue on the Oregon Trail and Woof. Reading one or more of the books makes the meeting more fun, but is not required to attend. If you are interested in participating, please turn in permission slips to the office or at the meeting.
Measure 97 Information
This Thursday, Oct. 20th, at drop-off and pick-up, the Edgewood PTA will have a table with information about Measure 97, a proposal to better fund Oregon’s schools, health care and senior services by increasing the minimum tax for large and out-of-state corporations with more than $25 million in annual Oregon sales. We can answer any questions about the ballot measure and give you pamphlets with more information. If you already support Measure 97, pick up a bumper sticker, lawn sign or pin! The Edgewood PTA, along with teachers, businesses, labor unions and the Oregon PTA, officially endorsed the measure at our September meeting.
Free Movie Night Friday and Snack Pack Food Drive!
Edgewood PTA is hosting a movie night this Friday, Oct. 21. This is a fun time to hang out with other families and watch a movie with your kiddo! Hotel Transylvania 2 will be shown in the gym and The Peanuts Movie in the cafeteria. Doors open at 6pm. Movies start at 6:15 p.m. Also, teacher Tina Leaton and the 5th graders are selling snacks to raise money for Outdoor School.
Movies are free, but we are accepting donations for our Edgewood Village, the PTA’s food pantry. We are collecting food for our snack bag program, which sends kids home with food over the weekend.
Needed single-serve food items are:
juice boxes
non-refrigerated milks
cups of fruit
granola bars or cereal bars
beefaroni or spaghettios
packets of instant oatmeal
cereal bars
pudding cups
fruit snacks or strips.
Thank you for coming to this wonderful community event, and thank you in advance for supporting the Edgewood Village with the needed food items!
Popping popcorn poppers needed!
We are still looking for popcorn volunteers to help make popcorn and bag it on Wednesdays. Proceeds go to the primary grades to help cover costs for field trips and other learning opportunities.  We’ll be able to start popping and selling popcorn once we have a few volunteers.  Commitment would be one or two Wednesdays a month. Please let Tanya at the front office know: 541-790-8700 or bunson_t@4j.lane.edu.
4J Leaders Meeting
Join us at the District Office Auditorium on Tuesday, Oct. 25, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. for the first of four district wide parent leaders meetings. Each meeting will include a 40-minute training topic and a 20-minute information presentation from Superintendent Dr. Gustavo Balderas, Elementary Director Brooke Wagner, and Secondary Director BJ Blake.
At the October meeting, retired educators Josh Reckord and Bill Kentta will share information about how parent involvement impacts student achievement in our schools and provide strategies and resources for maintaining a high level of engagement.
We’ll see you in the breezeways,
