Edgewood PTA officer election June 7

PTA officers for next school year will be elected on Tuesday, June 7th. In order to run for office or vote for officers, you must be a PTA member (meaning you paid your $10 dues). We’d love to see more people coming out to vote and running for officer positions, so please e-mail vicepresident.PTAEdgewood@gmail.com if you are interested. The elections occur during the next PTA meeting, which is Tuesday, June 7 in the Edgewood Library at 6:30 p.m.

 
Thinking about OBOB (Oregon Battle of the Books) for next year?
Want to know more about next year’s Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) program at Edgewood? Join us for a quick informational meeting after school on Wednesday, June 1 from 1:45-2:15p.m. in the Edgewood Library for all interested current 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders.  We will be handing out the list of new titles, answering questions, and briefly discussing next year’s program.  Parents are welcome.

Important Dates for Edgewood students:
June 2nd – 4th and 5th graders will be hosting an open house for their classroom cities
June 9th – Talent Show 1:00
June 10th – No School (grading day)
June 13th – SPLASH (1st-5th grades)
June 14th – Field Day
June 16th – Last Day of School (Early release 11:45; buses will leave Edgewood at 11:35.)
 


Lost and Found
Lost and Found items will be put out on display along the breezeway this Thursday for easy finding. Please come and peruse and pick up any items you are missing. If you aren’t able to make it, ask your student to do so. All items remaining at the end of the year will be donated.
Yogurt Extreme June 3rd
Come out to Yogurt Extreme on Friday, June 3rd and celebrate summer while donating money to Edgewood! We hope to see you there!
 
Help out with 5th grade promotion breakfast
We need several volunteers to help with the Fifth Grade Promotion Breakfast. Edgewood needs parent volunteers of students in K-4 to help with the Fifth Grade Promotion breakfast on June 16th, from 7:15-9am. We need your help to make this event a success every year! Interested parents should contact Tanya Bunson at bunson_t@4j.lane.edu.
Field Day on June 14!
Field Day Volunteers Still needed! Edgewood’s Field Day is Tuesday, June 14, and it promises to be great fun for all the students. The Kinder through 2nd graders will have field day from 9 to 10:30 a.m. and the 3rd through 5th graders will have field day from 1:15-2:30 p.m. We’ll need 2-3 volunteers from each class to help the students with the races/games. Please let your teacher know or e-mail coordinator Michelle Stecher at michellestecher@gmail.com.

We are also in need of the following items for Field Day. Please let Tanya (bunson_t@4j.lane.edu or 541-790-8700) in the front office know if you can donate any of the following:

Kiddy pools (plastic or blow up kind) – we need 7
Large containers (plastic jars) – we need 4
300-500 water balloons
Sashes, sunglasses, gloves – 4 of each
 
Achieving Quality Public Schools: Meeting announcement
There are two public meetings scheduled this week to help shape the future of education in our community.
Tuesday, May 31: Oregon Rising
Heather Sielcki and Jenny Reesor will host a community conversation in the South Eugene High School library to describe not just what schools could be, but what we think they should be. Participants will share their feedback in person or by using a computer at the event.
When: Tuesday, May 31 from 7pm to 8pm
Where:  South Eugene High School Library, 400 E 19th Ave
Oregon Rising is a non-partisan effort and it is not related to a bond or ballot measure. The information gathered will be used to build a plan for the future of Oregon’s public schools in the 2017 legislative session. Read more about Oregon Rising here: www.oregon-rising.org

Thursday, June 2: 4J Vision 20/20

Eugene School District 4J is engaged in 4J Vision 20/20, a strategic visioning and planning process to develop a roadmap for the next few years. Community members are invited to hear an update and provide feedback on the planning process at a community meeting.
When: Thursday, June 2, 7 p.m.
Where: Roosevelt Middle School, 680 E. 24th Ave.
