Budget shortfall alert! How you can help school funding:
At last week’s meeting, the Edgewood PTA voted to endorse A Better Oregon, which proposes raising corporate taxes to cover needed education and social services particularly in light of the $1.8 billion budget deficit predicted for the next biennium. The PTA is urging parents to tell the state’s legislators on the budget committee that our schools can’t take any more cuts especially while we have the lowest corporate taxes in the country. Need help writing an effective email? Visit EdgewoodPTA.com for a “How to Testify” document. Then email waysandmeans.budget@state.or.gov.
Reading Olympics envelopes went home Friday!
You should have received your child’s Reading Olympics envelope and information Friday, Feb. 24th. Please return the envelope by Monday, March 13th,, whether it includes a donation or not. This is a celebration of reading-with the hope of sparking a passion that will last a lifetime! Our goal is to raise $10,000 to support our school’s special programs, such as Artist-in-Residence, field trips, outdoor school and more. Remember, even the smallest pledges add up.  Check out the video put together for Reading Olympics here.

We are looking for some volunteers to help count the donations coming in between Monday March 13th and Thursday, March 23rd. To volunteer, please email coordinator Ali Megan at info@alimegan.com

Mark your calendars for March 12th!  Edgewood Dine and Donate
The next dine-and-donate is Sunday, March 12th at 16 Tons Café, in the same complex as Market of Choice. Come out and get some food and drink and support Edgewood! More information will come home before the event.
Library Volunteers Still Needed
We still need at least one more volunteer to help re-shelve books in the library each week. Specifically we are looking for someone on Thursday afternoons around pick up or Friday mornings after drop off. Please let Tanya in the office know (541-790-8700; bunson_t@4j.lane.edu) if you are available. Thank you to those that have already signed up to help! Please check in with your child’s teacher to see if they could use extra help during their weekly library time.

Thank you so much to Robin Detmer and Casey Wilson for taking time out of a busy Saturday to show support for not cutting school funding at the Ways and Means budget committee hearing at Lane Community College. Legislators heard from dozens of people who don’t want our essential services cut. Your presence helped fill the main room AND an overflow room to capacity! Thank you also to all the parents who submitted testimony to the committee.
We’ll see you in the breezeways,
