PTA meeting tonight!
Come check out Edgewood’s PTA. We are meeting tonight at 6:30 p.m. in the Edgewood Library.
Direct Drive Donation has launched!
Our Edgewood fundraising is an integral part of being able to continually provide the well-rounded programs that benefit all of our children at Edgewood Community Elementary School. Many of the programs that continue to make Edgewood a great place for elementary education would not exist without donations from generous parents like you. We have just launched our next major fundraiser-the Direct Drive Donation! You should have received a pink sheet and a red envelope home with your student. Donations can be made with cash, check or using Paypal on our website. Check out the PTA Website for more information: edgewoodpta.digitalpto.com
Edgewood Beach-themed Disco Dance coming up Friday!
Get your dancing shoes out for a fun time on Friday, Feb. 19th from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Edgewood gym. The DJ is Connah J from Medium Troy, and it promises to be a rockin’ good time! This is a family event, so please no drop-offs. Board games will be set up in the cafeteria for some mellow playtime. Admission is free and snacks will be available for purchase. Interested in helping out with this event? Contact Michelle at firstname.lastname@example.org.
–On Thursday, Feb. 18th, and Tuesday and Thursday next week, volunteers are needed at drop-off time to count money from the Direct Drive Donation. The more volunteers, the quicker it goes! Plan to spend about an hour. Willing to help? Email Ali Megan at email@example.com
–We need volunteers to help pick up donated items from local businesses for our Fun Night Silent Auction. Fun Night is Friday April 29th! If you would like to help pick up items and get them to the front office (Tanya) or directly to me at school, please email Robin Detmer at firstname.lastname@example.org
BIG SUCCESS: OBOB(Oregon Battle of the Books) !!!
Biggest Reading Battle/Tournament EVER at Edgewood. Close to 70 kids stayed after school each day to test their knowledge on the 16 books they have been reading since September. They had so much fun! We had over 650 questions asked, 20+ volunteers, 16 teams, and an enthralled audience who watched in anticipation as the last 2 teams out of 16 battled for first at Friday’s school wide OBOB Assembly. Even our youngest 2nd grade audience didn’t flinch during the 25min. assembly. The best part – kids were excited about reading, and didn’t even realize they were not just learning about books and history, but also how to analyze questions using their knowledge and arrive at an answer in only 15 seconds-working as a team of 4.
NEXT: Our winning team (Word Wizards) will go on to represent Edgewood at the Regional Tournament on March 12, then perhaps on to the State Tournament (In 2014 – Edgewood won the entire State OBOB Championship- only school in 4j to do so).
OBOB is free, run completely by volunteers for kids in grades 3-5, of all reading levels. Look for our June meeting on next year’s program and the new 16 books.
It’s National Children’s Dental Health Month!
The American Dental Association month long campaign, Sugar Wars, encourages kids to: Brush 2 minutes 2 times a day AND eat healthy for a healthy smile! For this month, there will be free toothbrushes and toothpaste available in the office for your child to bring home for use and encouragement! Supplies are sponsored by the Edgewood Village and ANY student is welcome on a first-come first-served basis.
There are also a number of opportunities to receive services such as the Children’s Dental Center Program (sponsored by the Assistance League) and The Children’s Dental Clinic located on the campus of Churchill High. Contact Edgewood School Nurse Helana for information at (541) 790 5746 or email@example.com
School Garden Work Party next weekend
Help seed some cold weather crops and bring seeds home for your own garden! Stop by the Edgewood School Garden on Saturday, Feb. 27th or Sunday, Feb. 28th between 10 a.m. and noon. You are welcome to bring your family, meet Sarah, the school garden coordinator, and enjoy the school garden. Please bring adult work gloves. Contact Sarah at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
Currently Seeking Family Donations for Fun Night!
The Fun Night and Silent Auction are less than 3 months away! The auction team is already hard at work securing great donations from local businesses. We are also looking for families who may be able to help this year. Do you or someone close to you have a vacation rental, a gift card, a skill, a bottle of good wine, or other item that you would be generous enough to donate? Please email Robin Detmer at email@example.com with donations or questions. Thank you so much to those who have already donated items!
Two more “scholarships” for PTA membership available!
Want to be a member of Edgewood’s PTA? Are discouraged by the $10 annual dues? Then ask for one of the scholarships that we have available-you don’t need to give us a reason, just ask! We’d love to add 2 more members to our roster, and you’ll be able to vote at any PTA meeting or the May budget meeting. Send an email to vicepresident.PTAEdgewood@gmail.com
